François Lisée’s And Diane De Courcy’s Open Letter Is An Insult To Every Quebecer’s Intelligence

Do You Feel Wooed?

Do You Feel Wooed?

Do you feel wooed Anglo Quebecer‘s, or get the feeling you were being played with, or perhaps that the open letter from Jean-François Lisée and Diane De Courcy was a condescending piece of crap that insulted not only the intelligence of non Francophone in Quebec by offering little real substance and asking us to trust them to stick the proverbial knife in our backs, but that of every Quebecer in Quebec, by saying that they are trying to preserve a fair balance of language being used and not remove English totally from Quebec where possible? Has this open letter put your fears to rest, or has this open letter from François Lisée and Diane De Courcy only reaffirmed your understanding as it did mine, that this political party cannot be trusted to do what they say they are going to do, or want to do for the Anglos, or the Francophone of Quebec, because they are cowards desperately trying to find a solution to what they see as their only priority right now how to stay in power and look to anyone like a vote for them means something positive?

Do you now feel that you have nothing to fear from the Parti Quebecois?  I think Marois and her bunch are crazy at best if they think that this open letter even remotely suggest that Anglo’s concerns about Bill 14 were even vaguely addressed.  I agree they were mentioned in the open letter and therefore they must have been heard, but the third part the part about stop stripping Anglo’s of Quebec of their rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms of Canada and the Canadian Constitution has not been acted on and therefore I put it to all Canadians, “ That to hear an oppressed peoples cry for equality is only a part of the solution. The other part of the solution is that: If the oppressor (The Parti Québécois and the Sovereignists of Quebec) have to really change their ways and:

  • Stop allowing by doing nothing the degrading of anything English, or not French.
  • Stop the physical and verbal assaults of Anglos on our streets and in the work place, because they dared to speak English in public in Quebec.

  • Stop removing the rights of Anglo’s in Quebec with every law they pass and try to see all Quebecers as equals.

  • Stop trying to remove any presence of Anglo language and culture from Quebec. maybe then the non Francophone of Quebec would feel like a less of an oppressed people.

‘Perhaps if the open letter would have said we heard you and are going to stop all of the above, or any one of the above we Anglos living in Quebec might have seen a dim light at the end of the tunnel and not thought that it was a speeding train  that if not derailed would mean our end.’

To promise to amend a bill that strips Anglo’s in Quebec of just about all of their rights left to them in Quebec for now, but promise to get back to doing the same thing once the political climate cools down, or write that you still intend to attack those very same rights in another way, to me is not acting on the fears, or what you claim to have heard and understood,  but making a mockery of what those feeling the weight of oppression are trying to say.   Anne Bolin is reported to have said as the people starved and begged for food, “Let them eat cake”, and we know what that got her, don’t we?”

Pauline Marois must be taking lessons on evasiveness and political non transparency from Steven Harper.  What is next for Quebec under her rule, perhaps proroguing the government to avoid the inevitable; is that not what cowardly governments do when they want to stay in power, but are afraid they would lose if they called an election?  This clawless, toothless tigress can not hunt and kill for herself she needs to have her food caught an chewed for her, by another and before even that the old and feeble feline must obtain permission to approach the kill before she is allowed to eat.  How frustrating it must be to have thought you could win a country of your own by oppressing the minority only to find that it is they whom you have been guilty of oppressing that hold the deciding votes of your dream becoming a reality.

What the explanation seems to be for why Bill 14 was even tabled, if this open letter is to be believed, is  that the Parti Québécois never expected that Bill 14 to pass as it is now written, nor did they want it to.  Pauline Marois would now have us  believe, as they explain in this open letter and in interviews, that the tabling of Bill 14  into the National Assembly was merely a political tactic to get the debate going, that the old Liberal government refused to have. In other words the Parti Québécois picked a fight with the  non separatists living in Quebec as a means to open up dialogue, showcasing their natural gift for diplomacy and inherit capacity for sincerity.  This government has flip-flopped so much that I do not think that they even know which end is up anymore, or what they really mean when they speak in either official language.

Why would Jean-François Lisée,  Quebec’s minister of international relations and the minister for Montreal and liaison with the Anglophone community and Diane De Courcy, Quebec’s minister in charge of the Charter of the French Language and minister of immigration pretend that they give a damn about how the Anglophones think, or what they want.   Anglophones know that as long as the separatists of Quebec, feel the need to have their version of the Gestapo, known to all Quebecers as language police in Quebec; maintain the policy and practice that French has to be 3 times bigger than any other language on a public sign in Quebec and all directional signs must be in French in Quebec, we Anglos will feel that nothing will change for the better for the Anglo living in Quebec, no matter how consolatory the open letters and the speeches are.

  • Issues such as the Pastagate fiasco which had the Gestapo of the Office québécois de la langue française trying to remove words off of menus in an attempt to save the French language in Quebec will not see these actions stopped, but rather reviewed.
  • Bill 14 as it reads now would force military personnel to send their children to French schools, overriding their current exemption. The ministers say this section will be removed from the bill and dealt with in separate legislation.  In other words just removed to allow this bill to pass, and so nothing has really changed just approached differently another time.  No understanding of what Anglophones wanted here either.
  • As it is written now Bill 14 empowers the government to revoke a municipality’s bilingual status if the English-speaking population dips below 50 per cent. In the letter, the ministers say the bill will be amended to ensure that the cultural history of bilingual communities is preserved, which begs the question why if this is what they truly believe did they try to do the opposite?

I agree with  what Jack Jedwab, executive director of the Association of Canadian Studies when he  said that, “The proposed amendments are too light on detail If so much of the bill is going to be dropped, then what’s the purpose of it in the first place other than to salvage the political face of the government?”

Is Jason Kenney Pushing Canada Towards A ‘White Canada Policy’ ?

800_cp_jason_kenney_1102111

This government under Steven Harper is continuously using Australia as an example of countries we respect in terms of refugee policy and immigration policy and in fact has been fashioning our policies to become if not exactly in their image, than at least as close as we can get to the part in their history that permitted the legal use of immigration policies and laws for the sole purpose of keeping the purity of the countries white European heritage, culture and religion, (For Australia that meant British).  Prime Minister Steven Harper is on record as saying this in his speech about, ‘Real Canadians’.

Jason Kenney, Vic Toews, John Baird, Steven Harper and Peter MacKay keep talking about how they respect the rich history of Australia in terms of immigration practices, and the treatment of its aboriginal population, so I thought I would go take a look at Australia’s history regarding these two things and see exactly what it was that the Harper government liked so much, that they just had to change Canadian law and policy in these two areas, to be like them. What I discovered right off the bat was like everything else this government tries to take from another country’s history and apply to Canada’s present day situation, it is guilty of taking the worst of  Australia’s history on immigration and aboriginal policies and laws to emulate; a part of its history that even the Australians had to admit was racist and have been fighting hard to change, in the face of international and United Nations condemnation.

Before writing this article I knew that Australia had once had a, ‘White Australia Policy‘, that meant that Australia intentionally favoured immigration to Australia by white people from Britain and strongly discouraged non-whites.  I however did not know that it started as far back as  1840 and remained like that until after the 2nd world war, when it was dismantled only in stages, the final stage only coming into effect in 1975.  During World War II, many non-white refugees entered Australia. Most left voluntarily at the end of the war, but many had married Australians and wanted to stay. Arthur Calwell, the first immigration minister, sought to deport them.

The Immigration Restriction Act 1901 placed certain restrictions on immigration and… for the removal… of prohibited immigrants. The Act drew on similar legislation in South Africa. Edmund Barton, the prime minister, argued in support of the Bill with the following statement: “The doctrine of the equality of man was never intended to apply to the equality of the Englishman and the Chinaman.”

Attorney General, Alfred Deakin  said he believed that the Japanese and Chinese might be a threat to the newly formed federation and it was this belief that led to legislation to ensure they would be kept out: “It is not the bad qualities, but the good qualities of these alien races that make them so dangerous to us. It is their inexhaustible energy, their power of applying themselves to new tasks, their endurance and low standard of living that make them such competitors.”

Pacific Island Labourers Act 1901

In 1901 the Australian parliament passed the Pacific Island Labourers Act 1901. The result of this legislation was that 7,500 Pacific Islanders (called “Kanakas”) working mostly on plantations in Queensland were deported and entry into Australia by Pacific Islanders after 1904 was prohibited.

The Paris Peace Conference

At the 1919 Paris Peace Conference following World War 1, Japan sought to include a racial equality clause in the Covenant of the League of Nations. Japanese policy reflected their desire to remove or to ease the immigration restrictions against Japanese (especially in the United States and Canada), which Japan regarded as a humiliation and affront to its prestige.

Australian Prime Minister Billy Hughes vehemently opposed Japan’s racial equality proposition. Hughes recognized that such a clause would be a threat to White Australia and made it clear to British Prime Minister David Lloyd George that he would leave the conference if the clause was adopted. When the proposal failed, Hughes reported in the Australian parliament:

“The White Australia is yours. You may do with it what you please, but at any rate, the soldiers have achieved the victory and my colleagues and I have brought that great principle back to you from the conference, as safe as it was on the day when it was first adopted.”

Australian Prime Minister Stanley Bruce was a supporter of the White Australia Policy, and made it an issue in his campaign for the 1925 Australian Federal election stating, “It is necessary that we should determine what are the ideals towards which every Australian would desire to strive. I think those ideals might well be stated as being to secure our national safety, and to ensure the maintenance of our White Australia Policy to continue as an integral portion of the British Empire. We intend to keep this country white and not allow its people to be faced with the problems that at present are practically insoluble in many parts of the world.”

No less than 3 prime ministers of Australia have fought for the institution and the keeping of the, ‘White Australia Policy’ and now we have a prime minister of Canada taking us in that direction as he uses his majority status to make policy changes much like Australia’s protectionist governments. It has taken over 25 years once it was decided that this policy was wrong to make it illegal to discriminate by basis of ethnicity when dealing with who may immigrate, or who can gain refugees status in Australia, yet the leaders and the members of Canada’s federal government think that this is a country who they should fashion Canada after and by virtue of their majority government no one is in a position to stop legally.

Well next I took a look at how the Australians treat their aboriginal people, and just like Canada the Australians are guilty of  still treating their aboriginal people horrifically and like Canada has received condemnation from the United Nations and the international community, which fall on deaf ears.  Australia too thinks that it can say I am sorry to their aboriginal people  and despite nice words, apologies and things made to make Australia look good from others looking in, continue the horrific treatment of their aboriginal people in reality; just like their biggest fan Canada.  In the area of aboriginal rights we as a country thanks to this conservative government led by Steven Harper will continue to abuse and mistreat our First Nations people, and use Australia as an example of another democratic respected country that does the same thing, as though that makes it right.  I have posted this article in its entirety so that you can compare the tactics of the Harper government to that of the Australians and get an idea of just how racist the Harper government is and how it seeks to put forward its worst and the most racist of ideologies and policies and back the use of these practices by sighting precedence in the history and practices of other racist supposedly democratic countries such as Australia.

UN ‘shocked’ at Australia’s treatment of indigenous people

A traditional owner from Australia’s Northern Territory says the world was shocked to hear how the Australian Government treats its indigenous people.

Reverend Doctor Djiniyini Gondarra says many aspects of the government’s intervention in aboriginal communities was heavily criticised. [ABC] (Credit: ABC).  Reverend Doctor Djiniyini Gondarra, from the Arnhem community of Galiwinku, has just arrived back from the UN’s International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Geneva.

Doctor Gondarra says many aspects of the government’s intervention in Northern Territory aboriginal communities were heavily criticised.  The intervention legislation was a package of changes made to welfare provision, law enforcement, land tenure and other measures in 2007.

It included the suspension of the Racial Discrimination Act, for measures to go ahead.

“This particular measure to do with the northern territory emergency response and other things that are related to aboriginal people the committee actually challenged and said yes this is not a special measure and really totally a racial discrimination to the first people.”   The Federal Government says the Racial Discrimination Act will be reinstated at the end of the year.

We in Canada have entered a dangerous time as a country and as a people, because Steven Harper and his government seek to take this country and Canadians back to a time in our history that was darkened by racist and supremacist ideology, laws and practices. There has not been one immigration bill passed, not one bill dealing with the rights of the First Nations and not one foreign aid policy that has not smacked of colonialism and a sense that one, race, one religion and one political ideology is best for all and all of those things are steeped in our European history which was rich with racism and supremacist ideology.  At a time in the world’s history when nations and people are trying to do their utmost to shake off the stench of their vile racist and supremacist pasts Harper, Toews, Kenney and MacKay and all of their minions are glorifying the most disgusting, shameful and  racist parts of our Canadian history and heritage and use the worst parts of our allies history to turn our wrongness into a right, by showing we are not the only country to behave in this manner as though two or more wrongs make a right.

I think given what our rich Canadian heritage has meant, still means and will mean in terms of racial equality for all, multiculturalism and religious freedom and respecting the indigenous people of this country, has been found to be lacking we should adopt a new way of being that does not glamorize and seek to go back to a time of colonization, but seeks to join the modern world as it tries desperately to embrace the new world vision of equality for all, justice for all a sense of global commonality.

Note:  I listened in amazement as Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism talked casually about sending people with dual citizenship found guilty of terrorist acts, or other acts he refers to as heinous, which amounts to being found guilty of any crime that is punishable by a 2 year jail sentence, or more by a person granted entrance to Canada as a refugee, a  landed immigrant, or a dual citizen, whether or not the infraction is in said person’s past, or in their present, whether or not the infraction was a violation which occurred in Canada, or not back to face possible death sentences, or torture as a result of Canada’s deportation of them to the country of their origin. Jason Kenney did not stop there, when asked who he and his government were targeting next in this witch hunt designed to rid Canada of a certain types of refugees and undesirables according to his government policies, he made this comment,  ‘Now that the Muslim Brotherhood have come to power in Egypt, I think that all those who were in that organization that came here on refugee claims, or because their live were being threatened should be overjoyed to return to their own country now that their side is in charge of the government’.  This to me is the targeting of a certain race, a certain religion and paves the way for Muslims who do not agree with the Western Alliances choices in resolving the Middle East Conflict to be removed from Canada legally. If not why not let them return home on their own if this is their choice, like any other refugees now  Canadian citizens after a favorable regime change in their homeland, or have permanent status are allowed to do, or stay here if that is their wish?  Why is Jason Kenney and his department actively seeking ways to force them back to where they came from? Why did Jason Kenney make this off the cuff, Arrogant statement that showed his total disregard for some human life?  This singling out of persons because of race, creed, political affiliation is racist at best and has no place in Canada.  If Jason Kenney and his government like the Australian way of doing things and are not happy with the way Canada and Canadians do things, why do not they just get up and immigrate to Australia and leave us Canadians with our values free of all the supremacist attitude?  I fear some members in the conservative party would not find it such a great place to live in if they had to do it.

Is Israel A Plague On The World Signaling The Apocalypse, And Armageddon?

Israel flattens research facility and holds itself above international law.

Israel flattens research facility and holds itself above international law.

Okay well I have tried to stay out of the Middle East Conflict for the last several months, because none of it makes any sense to me and you either end up bashing the Israeli’s for their behaviour or you end up having to bash all Muslims, but this last assault which amounted to the unprovoked bombing of Syria makes me feel as though the scales have been tipped way to far in what the world will allow Israel to do in terms of aggression towards its neighbors without having to fear sanctions, embargos, or threats of withdrawn financial, or military support.

How does a civilised world say out loud that it would not be a good idea for Syria to retaliate against Israel bombing them, because Israeli allies such as the Western Alliance would be forced to step in and assist Israel.  This last unjustified totally unwarranted, unprovoked attack on yet another of its neighbours proves that Israel thinks that it is above international law.   It displayed this when it stormed a Turkish ship in international waters killing unarmed civilians who they claimed were bringing arms to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.  They justified the killing of civilians that time by saying that the people on board were armed and tried to attack them as they boarded the ship.  Unless we are now counting knives found in the galley as weapons of war, or crutches and other medical supplies as transporting weapons to be used against the nation of Israel, I do not understand why the Israel’s allies did not walk away from the Israelis right there and then.  Well that is not true I do understand it, I just do not agree with the principle and the ideology that says that no matter what I do to you, I am right and therefore by that premise you never have a right to act aggressively towards me, because you will always be acting from a wrong place.

Israel has long enjoyed the backing of its allies both financially and militarily as though they are blameless and only seek a peaceful existence with their neighbours and at times they almost pull off the act convincingly and then out of nowhere they pull of another military action which must be considered by all intelligent people as an unprovoked act of war and show their true colours.  Now unless they are attacking on the behalf of the Western Alliance, who wish to remain looking as  neutral as possible, I can’t imagine why this act of aggression was not met with at least an overt display of disapproval from the countries in the Western Alliance, like France, Italy, England, Canada and the USA.  I think that every time Israel does something like this it makes a fool out of its allies and confirms that its Palestinian neighbors and all other Muslim countries are not lying when they call Israel the aggressor and accuse this nation of having another agenda that has nothing to do with peace in the region, but rather Israel has an agenda that sees its nation increasing its existing land base by stealing the land  of its neighbors; similar to the way it keeps increasing its illegal settlements, while accusing others of wanting them wiped off the face of the earth.

I wish I had something nice to say about the state of Israel, but their actions show them to be a cynical, selfish, unlawful terrorist nation who uses an alleged promise or covenant they claim to have with their God Jehovah to commit these unprovoked attacks.  What was refreshing however was at least Israel stuck to its usual propaganda and political rhetoric and did not try to say that it was bombing  Syria to help the Syrians, as it allies in the Western Alliance are famous for.  I have heard it all now bombing a country because you think that they may have explosive weapons of mass destruction that they may at some point sell to an enemy of your country, like the Palestinians.  If every country in the world begins to take such actions every time they think another is about to do something that might threaten its security, or the Americans act like the Israelis did every time they are threatened verbally  and not use restraint and common sense like if the Americans decided to do when North Korea threatened them with a nuclear assault, we will indeed be facing the end of the world as we now know it brought on by the mass destruction of everything due to preemptive and reactive nuclear strikes, which will be the end of all life on earth, the Apocalypse and Armageddon.

Now we know that Syria is embroiled in a very nasty civil war to say the least and would be spreading itself really thin if they were to retaliate against the state of Israel for its cowardly, unprovoked act of war, but one has to wonder is this all Israel has got, is this who they have become, mere terrorists?  I wonder just how many wars Israel would be trying to start without the backing of the Western Alliance.  There is nothing worse in my opinion than the state of Israel whose people suffered almost total annihilation during the 2nd world war, who were force to live in ghettos, who had no homeland, who were exterminated like so much unwanted vermin to have learned nothing about humanity, the value of life, the value of being able to exist without far of being attacked without reason.  It is a shame that they now practice terrorism, expansion of territory by means of war and seek to do unto another race of people what was done to them during the Holocaust.

Ghettos, forced relocations, race identity cards, blockades, the killing of women and children and civilians and the denial to a race of people even the most basic of human rights and not because it is a kill or be killed situation, but because they believe that their God is telling them it is okay. I think that if Israel is not careful they might have to use Goliath and destroy themselves along with their perceived enemies and as the have insinuated a long time ago everyone close enough whether they are a threat to the state of Israel or not.  I have nothing against the Jewish race, but I do harbour a distinct dislike for the arrogant, cowardly state of Israel who can only defend itself with the backing financially and militarily from under the protective hem of mommy’s skirt (The Western Alliance), from which it dare not come out from under lest it be destroyed in a fair fight.

If Israel is protected by a God, why does it need the protection of mere mortal men and all of the weaponry? Why not just make another tabernacle and carry God with them, before them and in times of need unleash that God to slay their enemies?  Why is because it is a lot of political, religious crap that makes it look and sound good to do the evil that they are guilty of doing to others.  It also forces the countries of the Western Alliance to help as we share a common God and the same greed to control all of the world and recreate it in our own image.  The time is coming for another world war, because Muslim states will not tolerate the interference from the west as Israel continues to wage an unprovoked, one-sided war on all Muslim states in the Middle East, because the west protects its violent , bully child and covers up its actions with threats of force and military and financial aid to all who would dare to respond with hostility to Israel`s never ending push for more that dies not lawfully belong to them, but that their God  has promised to them.

Destruction of the world as we know, by war in the name of God is named Israel.  If religious experts say that we are now living the plagues that will see the apocalypse realised, then surely Israel is but one of them.  I hope that Israel changes, but I do not see that happening as long as they receive the unconditional support of its allies who need an ally in this part of the globe, but as countries suffer with economic instability, ending in fiscal debt and the poor and middle class of the Western Alliance look at the wasted resources be used up by an ungrateful Israel I think that for their own survival they will have to let Israel stand on its own and I believe it is then that Israel will change or find themselves wondering the world once again, homeless, hated  and persecuted once again, or forced to use what Israel has code-named the Goliath project wish would start as nuclear war and bring on the destruction of the world.

Questions:

  • How was this act of war carried out without the help and permission of those supposedly helping to keep the peace between Syria and Israel?
  • Why were the Israeli planes not challenged by the “Peace keepers”?
  • Why in the aftermath of this latest unprovoked terrorist attack on one of its neighbours, a nation  where international peace keepers are trying to keep the peace were their not political, financial and military consequences?
  • By what right was the state of Israel not only created where there was no state of Israel before, but out of another sovereign countries land without the permission of its people?

Food for thought:   Israel once had a king and a country, given to them as a reward for their betrayal of the Muslims, or the Saracens.  The Jews of the area sided with the then so-called civilised countries of the west and joined in the push of a foreign invading force to help wipe out, the Muslim religion and convert every country and every person in the region to Christianity, by force if necessary. Israel assisted the Western Alliance of that time, the Christian countries of Europe and waged war on its neighbours, betraying treaties, and a peace that were etched into the region’s history.  The war was fought the Christians expelled and Israel was no more.  no more allies, no more foreign aid, no more state of Israel.

Is the Western Alliance so high and mighty now, such a believer in its own rhetoric that it thinks itself the instrument of God’s will?  Neither the state of Israel, nor the Western alliance has learned anything from past mistakes; the rhetoric is different, the cause is supposedly different, but the cost of their actions are the same, bloodshed, death and destruction and war; as never-ending hell brought on by greed and a false sense of self-importance in a time when global borders matter little and the sovereignty of all nations seems to be moot, what is the point of the war in the Middle East?

Are Canadians Really This Laid Back Or Just Tired Of Fighting

Are Canadians really this laid back, or just tired of fighting?

Are Canadians really this laid back, or just tired of fighting?

ArchemdisI know we are known for being a laid back people slow to anger and all of the, but come on people.  Look around you and this time open up your eyes and see how we are being governed from coast to coast, to coast.  It does not matter the level of government, which political party you look at because from the mayors to the prime minister we are faced with little dictators who are busy building legacies and living out childhood fantasies, of what I would do if I were the mayor, the premiere, or the prime minister, rather than doing what is best for the community the province and ultimately the country.  Look at the representation I get as a Canadian who lives in Quebec for example and I seriously doubt that the problems I face outside of language are all that different from the problems in governance that you face where you live in Canada.

I remember when Montreal was the place to come if you were a tourist, looking to enjoy friendly people who were eager to help you with a quick smile, good food in restaurants with menus in both French and English.  This used to be a clean town, a happy place a modern city, until legacies like, bike paths, the Botanical Gardens, the Summer Olympics and the World’s Fair started to take precedence over things like changing the cities plumbing, hiring enough building inspectors, fixing pot holes etc.  In short legacies became more important that the running and maintaining of the city.  There was money in the of millions of dollars for keeping a failing bicycle company alive, but no monies for infrastructure.  We are at a point that when it rains we have flooding causing billions of dollars of damage.  When it gets too cold we have frozen pipes bursting and causing millions of dollars of damage and it is all because we have had mayors who put their vision of what would be nice before what was good and needed for a healthy city.  Add to that  the corruption that is going on I the greater Montreal area civic government and you have an environment of stagnation, poverty mistrust and total chaos and a great distraction for a provincial separatist government who wants all eyes and minds focussed somewhere else as it tries for the umpteenth time to ram its agenda down the throats of a tired and weakened provincial population.

Living in Quebec  is distinct all right, but not in the nice way it used to be.   At one time before the politically motivated push for separation started,  that turned citizen against citizen, in what was called a movement seeking equality, but has turned out to be little more than a case of reverse discrimination where the one time oppressed masses are now taking revenge on the ancestors of the one time oppressor in the name of justice, language preservation and cultural survival, it was once permitted to.

  •  Speak the language of your choice in the streets, without fear of being attacked by disgruntled separatists.
  • Make an order at the coffee shop without fear of being harassed and assaulted by the separatist standing behind you in line.
  • Asking directions of a metro attendant in the information and ticket booth in English and getting reply in English; one of the two official languages of Canada.
  • Asking for the time of day from a bus driver without fear of getting arrested for disturbing the peace.

There are a lot more examples that I could give, but I think that you get the point.  This is happening whether there is a separatist government in power at the provincial level or not and I feel that it has more to do with union and political corruption than anything to do with cultural survival.

Education, health care, employment all fall under the responsibility of the provinces, but in my province the premiere is living out her childhood fantasy of being the queen of  an imaginary country called Quebec.  In her fantasy the bridges are not ready to fall down, people have not already been killed due to overpass collapses, students are not demonstrating in the streets and there is no corruption running rampant in her province.  Her dream will not allow for things that need her attention; for she must stay the course and fight for the sovereignty of her imaginary realm and see that her beloved French language does not fade into oblivion, because of the nasty English minority population, who refuse to lay down and accept that they can no longer be English in Quebec.  In her dream she sees Quebec as it was before her party’s quest for separation from the rest of Canada, with tourist flocking to the province happy to see all French signs that they can not read and a population for the most part who is hostile to any language other than French and so if you speak it you are lucky if you are just ignored instead of getting a severe tongue lashing or even a beating to remind you that you are in the province that would be a country where only the French language can be seen or heard in public.

I think a very few greedy, but not too smart group of people want to control the purse strings of Quebec without having to answer to anyone,(like the federal government) and to this end have decided to make sovereignty and the language non issue the priority over everything else.  I think that they decided to divide and conquer Quebec, by taking what was a legitimate argument for equality for its French majority of citizens and use it to get rid of the watch dog responsible for keeping its spending honest.  We are now suffering in every way in Quebec from health care to unemployment and all we hear from our provincial government is that it is now time to separate from Canada and that should be Quebec’s priority.

If winning the daily double was not good enough we scored the trifecta of bureaucratic stupidity and ineptitude;  we as Quebecers are blessed with a federal conservative government that just does not give a crap about Quebec, or its citizens, be they English or French, Protestant or Catholic, Black White, Brown, or Yellow.  In fact in all of Canada we are blessed as the only province in Canada with this one equality, that the Harper government does not care about anyone or anything in Quebec without prejudice as long as it can use the votes it gets during federal elections and still gets to collect the tax revenue for doing less and less.  The government of Canada under this leader has in my opinion made Canada a not so nice country in terms of:

  • Compassion, both at home and abroad in terms of social programming and foreign aid.  The cutting of transfer payments to the provinces for example. This money helps to pay for social programs, like healthcare, education, social welfare programs.  The throwing of refugees into jail for daring to run to Canada for safety, without passports and other legal documentation.
  • Putting economic growth above environmental safety and the making of money over the safety of Canadians, often down playing the effects of acid rain, green house gasses, or toxic waste disposal in our waters.  Ignoring established science is the norm for this government or it would not have gutted the fisheries and oceans act for example.
  • The lack of  Canada’s willingness to use diplomacy over sanctions, embargos and war to settle disputes between two opposing forces and are increasingly inability to be a neutral mediator between two opposing factions which used to allow for a negotiated settlement.  The closing of certain foreign embassies in Canada and the expulsion of their diplomats for no reason speaks volumes.
  • The way this government deals with anything, or anybody that does not conform with their plans be they foreign, or domestic. One just has to look at the way this government deals with its First Nations People to understand that this government punishes anyone who dares ask for and stands up for their rights under the Canadian Constitution, Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, or treaties, if they are contrary to its economic plan, which almost always they are.

I could have saved myself a lot of typing and simply said that for the most part, most Canadians are being governed all fronts on all levels, by governments who care little for their people, by politicians with very few morals, no compassion for those less fortunate than themselves and for the most part feel that they are not in the service of the people, but are in a position to tell Canadians what is best for them and do so whether or not the majority of Canadians believe in what they are doing or not.

Perhaps if we were not so laid back, or tired we would:

  •  March in the streets denouncing the corruption that has become government practice and demand change.
  • Hold nationwide strikes that would shut this country down and blow the Economic Recovery Plan clean out of the water.
  • We might demand that health care, education and poverty be addressed first, or at least at the same time as sovereignty and language.
  • We might hold this country’s governments to account and refuse to work until they put into place a system that forces a government that receives by  petition a demand numbering  51% of the voting population demanding that an election be called, that all governments of Canada, whether they be municipal, provincial, or federal are under obligation of law, call an election in a time to be specified in the law.

If only Canadians were not so laid back, or so tired and would stand up and say no more we might be able to achieve a change in the way things were being handled on all levels of government.

Will New Bill Fight Terrorism, Or Is It Just More Harper / Canada Boot Licking

I hear of all the arrests and convictions of persons by law enforcement of people who were plotting to blow up or planning to commit terrorist activities in this country and I wonder why it is that we are seeing this new anti terrorist law being introduced into the House of Commons.  Please do not tell me about the alleged plot to derail a train on a specific Via Rail route the other day that investigators were following, but stopped investigating, at the point where people were just looking at trains.  I am not suggesting that they should let these alleged terrorists blow up or derail a train, but if we knew who they were and were following them why not continue to follow them and see it out?  Why not see where the trail would have led, who else was in it with them, get an arrest based on the attempt rather on an alleged attempt are questions that immediately pop into my head?

What was behind the police exposing themselves and their investigation that I feel could have been carried out to its full obvious conclusion of catching the alleged terrorist duo in the act, seeing all others that were involved?  Did the government wanting to make points and use the USA‘s Boston Marathon tragedy to gain political points force the RCMP to conclude its investigation early?  I ask this because closing down an investigation when you have the  perpetrators under this type of surveillance and settling for a might have been planning and attack and an it was far from the action stage.

An article posted by the CBC News, Titled, Alleged terror plot targeting Via train thwarted reads, “Chief Supt. Jennifer Strachan said the two suspects watched trains and railways in the Greater Toronto Area. There was a specific route targeted, not necessarily a specific train, Strachan said, although she declined to reveal which route was allegedly being targeted.  “We are alleging that these two individuals took steps and conducted activities to initiate a terrorist attack,” she told reporters.  The two men are expected to appear at Old City Hall courthouse in Toronto tomorrow.  Alleged attack in planning stage.”

It is not that I doubt the police or the validity of their statements, because I believe that they are doing what they must to keep all Canadians safe in these turbulent times, but I think that they are being interfered with by people in the Tori government trying to make political points and once again try to look like they are doing something positive to fight terrorism when they all they are really doing is covering up the fact that they stole the monies that would have helped beef up border security for example by diverting the money to Toni Clement’s riding, for things like toilettes and gazebos.

The Huffington Post on the 08/15/11 posted an article titled: NDP: Tony Clement Created G8 Slush Fund in which they stated, “Critics howled when they discovered the G8 spending included funding for public toilets, gazebos and other local beautification projects hours away from the summit site in Clement’s sprawling Ontario riding.  The audit, released in June, found that the Conservatives passed off the $50 million G8 legacy cash as part of an $83 million fund to reduce border congestion when Parliament voted on the appropriation.  “I think we’ve moved well beyond the fact that Tony Clement took $50 million in border infrastructure money — money that would have helped trade, money that would have made Canadians more secure — and he spent it on gazebos and glow sticks,” the NDP’s Angus said Monday.”

It is the timing and the motivation that I am questioning, because it just happens to be after the Boston Marathon tragedy and happens to coincide with the Harper government’s new anti terrorism bill being introduced into the House of Commons today.  It falls on the aftermath of yet another border threat of our friends the Americans who are threatening to impose a charge on all Canadian vehicles entering the USA to help supposedly to help them pay for their massive, over dramatic,  highly theatrical and totally unnecessary  Canadian – American land border crossings; which I feel amounts to another cash grab to bolster their rapidly failing economy and help finance their over the top involvement in wars and toppling of legitimate governments around the globe.

I believe like John Chretien that trade and partnership as well as friendship is a two-way street and that the USA needs our trade dollars as much as we need theirs and the pain would be felt in both places  and disastrous for both economies if the borders were to be closed, but not insurmountable.  I feel  that it is time to call their bluff and a  let them put the charge at the border and any other hair brained money grabbing scheme they want to impose on their side of the border  and let Canadians make their own choices whether to go there or not.  Canadians are smart enough and it should be a personal choice to go to a country that is intent on ripping of Canadians which such outlandish charges just for entry onto their precious soil as though it were an amusement park, or a ball game, or a theatrical show.

The USA treats Canada as though it were a threat to its borders and  Canadian citizens as terrorist in disguise  and I think in light of their present and never-ending threats on  everything from national defence to business and  travel, we need to remove their friendly neighbour status and stop looking at them as a friendly ally.  I think we need to start looking at the USA, as an ally forced to be an ally because of a common cause and only towards that common cause are they willing to work with us and only on matters that suit their agenda and needs. Are they not the nation that hassles us the most about our territorial rights in the air land and sea, from coast to coast to coast?  Are they not the same nation that threatened to defend their country using Canadian air space whether we agreed with to let them or not? Finally was the USA not the same country who refused to pay us back the tariffs that the world court said they charged us illegally for in the soft wood lumber dispute? Are these the actions of a friendly neighbour state, or the actions of an opportunistic neighbour state?

With all of these threats and aggressive stances  coming from the USA I think it is time to start thinking about them in  terms of a  less than friendly nation status and more like a hostile aggressive neighbour; the type that likes to throw wild parties, is always complaining and blames you for all of the problems they have created for themselves.  The USA must be treated as a jealous, two-faced, back stabbing neighbor who having wasted all of its naturel wealth and resources, now talks about us fondly in public and at the same time does everything in its power to take what we have as Canadians for cheap, or for free.  The USA is not a shrewd trading partner, it is a greedy, every man for itself nation, who we are unfortunate enough to share borders with.  They are the alien invasion seeking to steal the resources of Canada and make them their own, by any means necessary.  I think if nothing else Wiki leaks taught and showed all Canadians what the USA really thinks about us when they are talking about us privately; when we are not in the room.  Whether or not we need this hypocritical, warrior nation, we will never know until we stand up to them and say forget it, give us your best shot; don’t stop there, close the borders, we will take our business elsewhere.

I like the NDP believe that we already have laws against Canadians being involved in terrorist activity and should not be duplicating them just to look like we are doing or saying something new to satisfy the USA’s never-ending demands and attempts to squeeze us for more.  Is it not enough that we build bridges to the USA and pay for it  on our own even though both countries will use it equally? Is it not enough that our government has lessened the Canadian standard of living by cutting all of the social programs down to nothing so that the USA can compete on the world stage trade wise? Is it not enough that we supply the USA with  hydro power, oil, and gas at under market value rates? Is it not enough that Canada supplies the USA with the blood of our soldiers in the USA’s never-ending campaign to police the world? Do we really have to give them our soul, our heritage, what it is to be a Canadian too? Must we really learn to forget what being a Canadian is? I hope not, but it seems to be what they are asking for and we have not denied them anything they have asked for in some time.

Attack Ads Harper Government’s Only Answer To Trudeau Popularity

MACKAY2458-jpg_143012 nYou know there is something horribly wrong with a country, its  government and its people, when public attack ads are the norm and considered by all to be just politics and is the accepted way to get rid of political opponents. In my opinion there is something wrong in the heads and hearts of most Canadians, because they continue to support this type of politics with their.  It has become a sad reality that the majority of Canadian  voters now throw their votes behind the leader, or political party that proves to be the best at character assignation, the best at lying and the best at using dirty tricks, rather than the political leader, or political party that demonstrates through its campaign that it has the best policies, that is transparent and that understands that it is their role to serve Canadians not to rule over us in dictatorship fashion.

If life  is not what you make it, but what you settle for and we apply this adage to Canadian politics, I believe that this country is in trouble.  I say this because, I believe that Canadians make it possible for bad government to get into power by settling for politicians whose only agenda is who they will attack, fire and get rid of through innuendo, inferences, gossip and even malicious lies and character assignations, because we the Canadian voter see this as normal behaviour to be expected from our politicians and just good politicking, on their part.  There was once a time in this country when elections were won by the party whose  ideologies and politics best reflected the feelings and needs of the voting population and not by preplanned personal attack ads and when politician sold themselves and their brand of politics and did not need to concentrate on attacking an opponent personally, but concentrated on comparisons in ideologies, policies and agendas.  I was actually stunned at how politicians and media personalities were talking freely and openly without fear of sanctions from either the viewing public,(the voters), the press,(CPAC, other media) or other politicians,  about what the plans were by  Steven Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada. It was then I realised just how dirty and how meaningless Canadian politics has become since the election of Steven Harper  and members of the Conservative Party of Canada.

If the reporters on  CPAC  are any indication of the kind of news coverage we can expect from the press corps leading up to an during the next federal election, we are in for the dirtiest one-sided political coverage ever seen in Canadian history.  I mean during the coverage of the Liberal Party of Canada‘s final day and last chance for those vying for the leader of the party’s leadership to connect with their members and people across Canada we have Martin Stringer and Peter Van Dusen casually chatting about what was in store for Justin Trudeau if he became the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada with every other political stripe instead of giving the candidates their full chance to get their message out to Canadians in a full uninterrupted, clear format without the political rhetoric of their political rivals, invited to speak by the CPAC team.  What bothered me the most though is that both the reporters and  politicians outside of the Liberal party of Canada were calmly discussing the setting up at fellow politician as though it were the most natural thing in the world for  political opponents to do in this situation.  Person after person sat in front of the camera and discussed the time-table for getting something on Justin Trudeau like it was okay to plot character assignation for political gain. Peter Van Dusen  said at one point in a conversation something like, “Do you think that the conservatives will try to get something on Justin Trudeau right away, or will they wait and let him get comfortable before they start in with the attack ads and attack on his character?” The answer went something like, ”I don’t think that the Conservatives will wait. They are prepared to deal with Justin Trudeau should he win and become the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.  They will try to get the attack ads going right away. They (The conservatives) need to get something on him and I do not think that they can afford to wait.”  Not once in the exchange did anyone in that conversation say that it is a deplorable tactic and denounce the Conservative Party of Canada for repeatedly using it.  Not once did anyone in that conversation even suggest that maybe the Conservative Party of Canada was engaging in something that is a disgrace, or perhaps they should promote their policies instead of trying to ruin other politicians using  attack ads and character assignation. Everyone in that exchange at every opportunity  seemed to suggest that if it works use it.  I think that CPAC is becoming more of an ad for the Conservative  Party of Canada  and a showcase for the Harper agenda, than a place to get unbiased coverage of what is happening on Parliament Hill.

The thing about democracy being so special is the right of the people to choose  the people they want to govern them based on what the political party states are its objectives and priorities, or its platform.  It would seem however that Canadian Politicians and the press believe that we would rather see a good smear campaign rather than learn what the politicians and their political parties are offering.  Why would they think that of us the voter of Canada? Maybe it is because this has happened before and we the voter keep asking for more dirt, more personal attacks and more character assignations and seem to care less and less about the issues, policies and transparency of political parties and their leaders? We seem to want to see the fight get down, dirty and personal, instead of informative and see nothing wrong until those dirty tactics and the people who use them are being turned on us after the election is won.  I think Canadians hear what they want to hear and if it isn’t dirt we do not hear it at all.  Two politicians honestly just putting their policies and plans for Canada out on the table for all Canadians to judge is boring to most of us and so the politicians give us what we want a mud-slinging contest with the politician with the most dirt on the other getting to lead the country in whatever direction they choose and most of the time when this happens it is a bad deal for Canadians, because after an election it is too late to judge their policies until the next time.  At the same time the press jumps at the chance to cover the greatest show on earth and the result is what we see I Canada now, a majority government ruling Canadians, instead of democratically governing Canadians.

I find that reporters like Martin Stringer and Peter Van Dusen are a doing a disservice to their profession and to those Canadians who are truly trying to understand what politicians really have in mind for Canada and who in the past have relied on CPAC to give them an unbiased look at the facts.  To that end I am eternally grateful for the coverage of the scrum, the committees and for the live coverage of day-to-day activities in the House of Commons, by CPAC, so that I  and all Canadians can see the attitude of the politicians with our own eyes, hear the words of the politicians with our own ears and put it all together for ourselves, using our own opinions rather than count on the biased coverage of its reporters, who at every turn seem to put forward the  Conservative Party of Canada’s view as though they word of God.

In conclusion we live in a time in Canada where issues and the need of the people count for little, or nothing and where ratings and a good show count for more than honesty and transparency. We the people revel in the personal dirt being slung and consider character assignation to be just good politics. We proved this in the last federal election by re electing a leader and a party who were thrown from office for contempt of parliament, meaning for deliberately misleading parliament which means deliberately misleading us the voters and citizens of Canada. I found it interesting and insightful that we collectively as a people decided to  punish the Liberal Party of Canada for bringing them down. We punished the Liberal Party in part because their decision to bring down the Tories forced us into the only democratic way to remove a misleading, non transparent government.  It seemed that a new trend was taking shape in Canada, which saw the Liberal Party being the only political party being held accountable for their misdeeds, scandals and bad practices.  For the most part this success in Steven Harper’s only agenda, only direction for Canada was succeeding; Steven Harper’s attempt in insuring the ruination of the Liberal Party from the Canadian political scene was working.  The attack ads, the dirty politics was working and Canadians were willing to accept its pound of Liberal flesh and keep a corrupt government as long as the Tories could provide a good show.

The Conservative Government of Canada, led by Steven Harper is a government which prorogued the government more than once during its first mandate, solely to avoid being booted out of power for the same inability to tell the truth, be transparent, obey the laws of Canada and to stop misleading the Canadian people.   The cost of prorogation is staggering and wastes millions of dollars, wastes all of the time and effort already put in on legislation that all must be started anew once government resumes, but worst of all it hurts Canadians who have to wait for the important emergency legislation, but we Canadians took this as just good political maneuvering and business on the hill as usual.

I feel that the Tories convinced enough Canadians that everybody on in government lies, cheats and misleads Canadians, so it was wrong to bring them down for what is a norm to be expected from politicians of all stripes and a re-election would change nothing no matter who got elected and therefore could only be seen as a waste of tax payers dollars and move done by the Liberals for purely political gain.  Of course we now know who the non democrats are and we have been paying the price for our naiveté ever since by being ruled rather than governed by the majority Conservative Government of Canada we elected. I feel that the Tories also convince enough voters that once they cast their ballot and elected a government that the voters job was not only done, but that was the extent of the democratic process for the citizen and that no matter what the duly elected government did from that point on the people and the opposition parties must allow the government to do whatever it likes good or bad, because that was how a democracy works.. So get ready for the attack ads, the dirt and the character assignation on Justin Trudeau and the complete coverage of it as only CPAC can bring it to you from its star Conservative of Canada Party cheer leaders, Mr. Martin Stringer and Mr. Peter Van Dusen and company.  Of course this is all in my opinion and an attempt to voice how I see things.  Why don’t you watch the up coming coverage of Justin Trudeau and how CPAC covers it and let me know how you see it?

Food for thought: The press seems to question Justin Trudeau’s experience and try to say that his lack of political experience may prove him not ready to lead the country. I say that maybe the lack of experience in dirty politics, character assignation and mud-slinging is what this country needs. Perhaps it would be refreshing for some one to ask us the voters in which direction we want to see the country going and not telling us what is good for us for a change. Have we not had enough of being dictated to? Justin Trudeau is a man and not a child, a father, a husband and a Canadian. I think that this qualifies him to throw his hat into the race for Prime Minister of Canada.  Why is it that we as voters are always asking for our government to ask us what we want and then when a hopeful leader does just that we call him or her too inexperienced and run back to the dictator, begging to be led by a ring through our noses?  We have eyes, ears, a heart and a mind and I would suggest that it is time to look with our eyes hear with our ears, feel with our hearts and put it all together with our minds and decide for ourselves what is good for Canada and ignore the hate, negativity and divisive political rhetoric from all political parties and leaders.  I would suggest that it is time for Canadians to get back to voting based on what we see, hear and know to be the best leader, political party based on the policies and ideas that they put forward rather than voting on the rhetoric, the character assignation and the attack ads.

Justin Trudeau has won the right to lead the Liberal Party of Canada and as seen today the attack ads by Steven Harper and his party are out there.  Could someone tell me why we are paying for video footage to be played on television showing Justin Trudeau half-dressed for a fundraiser and what that has to do with his ability to govern this country?  Are the Conservatives and Steven Harper that afraid of Justin Trudeau’s popularity with Canadians?  Is Steven Harper that afraid of a Liberal Party resurgence?  What political experience did Steven Harper have when he became the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and what made him more ready to lead a political party than Justin Trudeau? Can someone please tell me what is wrong with a teacher wanting to run this country as the conservative attack ad seems to be suggesting? Are Canadian teachers considered not to be real enough Canadians, by Steven Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada and so are to be discouraged from running for the highest political office in Canada, by any means necessary? Look for more trash ads from the Conservative Party of Canada and Steven Harper, because they only know how to win this way and are to full of themselves to see that Canadians want more than  attempts at smearing the opponent and have a clear idea what was not accomplished by this Conservative majority government as promised and want to know why that was and how they are going to turn around the mess that they have created with their governance of this country so far.  Here is an example below of the trash the Tories could not wait to put out.

Is Canada’s Confederation Worth The Effort, Or Our Tax Dollars?

canada-2tier-justice-71Every time I try to move on and leave the political situation in Canada alone Steven Harper and his strong majority government get embroiled in yet another scandalous episode. Even if I chose to ignore him and his party, the province of Quebec has Pauline Marois and her followers do something else so dumb and so senseless that I have to stop what I am doing and look and wonder why it is being allowed to happen by the federal government.  It is a vicious cycle of both federal and the Quebec governments gone mad.

The Canadian Confederation of Provinces:  I would have to agree with the Separatists, that the confederation of Canada is a joke.  I am not only talking about the Separatists of Quebec, but those of Newfoundland and out in western Canada as well, whom all feel that the price of being in a mismanaged, unaccountable, scandal ridden  confederation of provinces is sometimes just not worth it.  As a citizen of Canada and a resident of Quebec I am always asking  myself, what good is the federal government if it is so afraid that the country will be torn apart if it demands that its member provinces follow the laws of Canada that it allows rogue provinces to do what they want when they want and create laws for the sole purpose of defying it? Other than money for the provinces with less natural resources to profit from by way of  transfer  payments, what real value is their for the governments of the provinces, or the people of the provinces to remain in confederation? I know as a citizen I am always left trying to figure out what law trumps which Quebec’s, or Canada’s and one almost has to get a law degree to try and figure it out.  I say try because at the rate the provinces and the federal government are in court to figure out the constitutionality of each others laws and whose jurisdiction certain things fall into it would seem that neither the federal or the provinces are on the same page.

I remember in Montreal when a young man got arrested on a bus for asking for the time in and directions of a bus driver in English, everybody agreed that the guy had a right under the Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms and the Constitution of Canada to ask the question in English and to get an answer in English.  The head of the MTC however stated that although this was true that Quebec also had its own charter of rights and it was this charter of rights that must be followed in Quebec.  It is like this all over Canada, in some provinces more and in others less, but to some degree in them all leaving all Canadians wasting energy trying to figure out who to listen to and paying taxes to both with the exception of Ontario who only pays one tax.

We have a federal government that over the years has allowed the provinces to claw back so much power in an effort to keep Canada together that it no longer has the power to protect the people of Canada using the Canadian Constitution, or the laws of Canada, within Canada when it comes to the things that really mean anything to real people like (education, health and welfare, infrastructure, language, religious matters, job creation), just to name a few. For this reasons provinces get their money via transfer payments, but this does not mean that the monies are spent where they are supposed to go, as is evident when one looks at the state of most provinces economic state of affairs. they seem to have no money for low-income  housing, infrastructure, doctors, teachers, or the elderly and most are deeply in debt due to ineptness or out right mismanagement of the monies, or out-and-out corruption and the federal government says, “We send the monies, but it is up to the provincial government to spend it where it is supposed to go according to its priorities as it see them, in matters of provincial jurisdiction”.   I believe that once the federal government started to hand over all of its authority and power to the provinces over the everyday life of Canadians to the provinces that they resided in, the question of Canadian law and the Canadian Constitution and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms became moot. The words of these Canadian corner stones and the essence of  what Canada is became just words from a toothless tiger, without the strength and political might it needs to control rogue provinces and just not worth the effort, or the tax dollars.

I said it earlier and I will say it again, “I live in Quebec and try as I might I never know what law to follow; do I follow the laws of Canada , or the laws of Quebec when they are in conflict? What I know for sure is breaking either will get you in serious trouble, so what is a person to do? It is all very confusing and quite unfair to me and all citizens who want to obey the laws of Canada, or Quebec and keep getting caught up in jurisdictional disputes, between the federal and provincial interpretation of powers.  I have to stop and wonder if the provinces are allowed to do whatever they like to their citizens using their provincial charter of rights as a basis of laws that trump the federal law and if the provinces charter of rights is in direct violation of the Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms, why are we still bothering to pay taxes to a moot political entity?”

For years now Quebec has being going its own way as far as what laws of Canada it will abide by, what programs it will opt in and out of, to the point of sending their premiere throughout the world misrepresenting Quebec as a sovereign nation within Canada’s borders, trying to set up trade deals and God knows only what else.  I am starting to wonder why we bother with confederation of Canada at all? To listen to the Parti Québécois the government of Canada does not have the right to tell it anything and only has the right to send them money.  They take transfer payments like they are a willing partner in the confederation of Canada and then use the money not in the best interest of the citizens i.e. education, health care, infrastructure, senior care, or care of the most fragile of the poor, but instead squander funds trying to set up embassies in foreign lands, paying language police, changing English hospitals into French and the latest changing bilingual townships and cities into French only, against the desire of the people both French and English who reside there.  Where is the protection that is afforded to all Canadians under the Canada’s charter of rights and freedoms?  Where is the Canadian government?

Whether or not I should move to another part of Canada if I do not like what is happening can be argued, but what can also be argued is why should I have to move to get what is afforded to every Canadian under the laws of Canada? I am supposed to be a Canadian citizen residing in Quebec with the protection of the laws of Canada afforded all other Canadians, not a citizen of Quebec residing in Canada subject to the protection of the laws of Quebec as afforded all Quebecers.  I would have to say that the Parti Québécois has definitely and most effectively made the Canadian government look like a horses arse.  In every way that is important the Quebec government is free to do as it pleases with and to its citizens and since it was declared a distinct society it has done just that to the detriment of the province, to Canada and to its people.

I would be wrong to suggest that it is only the Parti Québécois that has done this to Quebecers, because it is has been every provincial government, no mater the stripe and I would suggest that it has been the fault of the provincial Liberal of Quebec and the federal governments of Canada, both past and present, that are guilty of doing more in terms of creating an environment that has done more for the advancement of the Parti Québécois’ agenda then the Parti Québécois themselves.  They have held power in this province for more terms than the Parti Québécois, but have allowed the threats of separation to force them to act contrary to the rights and freedoms when dealing with its residents and citizens of Canada.

I talk of the problems within confederation for Quebec, because I am a Canadian, who happens to reside here and so know what it is that I experience and the toll that this confusion and lack of political will to do something about it by the federal government has on me as a Canadian trying to obey the law of Canada, in a country where what province you live in dictates what the law is rather than the country you live in.
